Petroglyphs are lava rock carvings etched into stone centuries ago by Native Hawaiians. Although the true meanings of the petroglyphs are unknown, it is generally thought these carvings are records of births and other significant events in the lives of the people who lived here long ago. This charm is a petroglyph of a Hawaiian sea turtle or Honu. There are five species of sea turtles that live in Hawaii most of which use the Big Island predominately for their main nesting ground. Our original design petroglyph Honu is available in 14 karat white or yellow gold.
